The Pilgrim Clarsach

The origin of the Pilgrim Clarsach goes back to 1970 when, as a result of a special commission from the late Derek Bell (the celebrated harpist with the Chieftains), we designed a 34 string Clarsach along traditional lines, but with high-tension stringing. Borrowing some principles from the orchestral harp, but essentially developed in its own right, the Clarsach is unequalled in its scope for tonal colour on the one hand, and the fullest range of dynamics on the other. By carefully balancing out the forces by high tension stringing, another dimension is added to the capabilities of this type of harp.

The Clarsach is a performance harp which really comes into its own when playing with one of more other instruments. It is also the ideal first harp for a child who will want to play Classical Harp; the string tension and spacing are the same as for the Pedal Harp, and therefore no change of technique will be necessary when making the transition.
