The Skylark

is our response to the increased demand for a 'student' harp that retains our hallmark of genuine hand-made craftsmanship. We have taken a fresh look at this style of harp resulting in a new instrument with clean and uncomplicated lines whilst remaining reassuringly familiar. This 'no frills' approach proved an exciting challenge from a design perspective; the basis of which was no compromise to the stringing, semitone levers, reliability and most importantly, the quality of sound.

Sound quality

In distilling the essential elements of this type of harp we have been able to retain the very finest tone, reliability and ease of use yet keeping the price to a minimum. This approach has achieved around a 30% reduction when compared with the cost of our other 34 string models. As the sound created is at the heart of what we aim to achieve we like to describe the Skylark as:

"The low cost harp with the expensive sound"

The Skylark Harp is available in Maple Satin or you can choose from a range of colours
(colours shown may not be an exact representation of those available)

Artistic opportunity -

Mozart was able to compose some of his finest music using the fewest notes, in a similar way we viewed the appearance of this harp from an artistic perspective - important in an instrument which is also regarded as a thing of beauty.

For example -
this design does away with the need for any 'top', 'centre', 'side' or 'pressure' strips on the soundbox - familiar features of a traditional harp. Similarly the shape of the 'knuckle-block' has been refined yet simplified to mirror the very clean lines of the soundbox. Our high-tech age can help today's craftsmen whilst retaining the traditional skills as old as harp making itself such as selecting and seasoning the finest timber to obtain optimum strength and beauty in each piece.
